This book depicts a woman's search for true love. Domestic violence is an all-too-common occurrence in today's society, and wreaks havoc on the emotional and physical wellbeing of its victims. In her new novel (Two Loves, One Heart), Carrie J. Keaton brings these emotions to life in the story of a young, ambitious woman who must choose between her first love turned abusive and an old friendship that develops into a passionate romance.

Lynnette Thomas is a beautiful and passionate young woman from Atlanta who has firm plans for her life. She dreams about marrying her childhood sweetheart, Billy Matthews, launching a career in business administration and raising a family. Lynnette's plans start out well as she and Billy get married and move to Charleston, S.C., to begin their life together. They are the perfect couple for a while, until Billy becomes extremely possessive and demanding of Lynnette. He starts using drugs, alienates her from her friends and ambitions and emotionally and physically abuses her.

Billy ends up abandoning Lynnette while she is pregnant, leaving her feeling ashamed, hurt and alone. At her lowest point a long-lost childhood friend, Steve Montgomery, re-enters her life. Steve was a nerd in high school who loved Lynnette from afar, but is now a dashing, successful lawyer and sweeps Lynnette off her feet in a dazzling romance. Though both Steve and Lynnette are a little frightened by the new, unfamiliar feelings between them, they join together in a happy marriage. Their new life together flourishes until Billy resurfaces after a 10 year absence looking for a fresh start with Lynnette. Lynnette must decide whether to continue her life with Steve or give her first love a second chance. Anyone who has ever felt the heartbreak and trials that love can bring, especially those who have experienced abusive or controlling relationships, will relate to Lynnette's journey to find true love within herself.

I had dozed off in a peaceful sleep while I was dreaming of the happy life that lies ahead of us. The three hours had gone by quickly since we’d left our old hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. I was awakened from my slumbering state by gentle nudging.

“Lynnie ---- honey ---- We’re home. Wake up sleepy head,” Billy spoke softly.

I sat up as we were pulling into our driveway. Billy stopped the car and got out. He reached back into the car for me, while extending his hand. I grasped his hand as I slid out on his side of the car. Taking in deep breath of the country air, I walked over to the large elm next to the house. I sat on the bench while Billy carried our luggage inside. I sat there and admired the beauty of the sunset. It seemed to have such a calming, tranquil effect on me. I felt like I was being caressed in nature’s loving, peaceful arms.

After taking in the last of the luggage, Billy joined me on the bench.

“It’s beautiful out here. I see now why you wanted a suburban home ---- it’s so peaceful.” He remarked.

“Yes ---- it is,” I replied admirably.

Both of us sat there and watched as the sun slowly slipped away and darkness was claiming our tranquil surroundings.

Billy and I walked slowly up the walk to our new home, hand in hand. We were about to walk up the steps when Billy spun me around into his strong arms and swept me off my feet.

“Not so fast Mrs. Matthews. I’m carrying you across the threshold,” Billy spoke in a sensual tone.

With very little effort, he whisked me through the door and with a quick maneuver of his foot, closed it behind us. Billy began teasingly trailing gentle kisses along my neck. His kisses ignited delightfully tingling sensations in me. Standing me on the floor, he continued his love mission of stirring my rising desires.

As we gazed into each other’s eyes, there was little need for words. We joined hands and walked into our bedroom. We embraced and engaged in another sensual, slow kiss. Billy’s kiss was warm and delicious as his full lips moved over mine, sending waves of passion crashing through my body. We moved our hands over each other’s bodies, searching and caressing until our passions had awakened a desperate need in both of us. Billy’s mouth never left mine, as he began unbuttoning my blouse. He put one hand inside my bra and gently caressed my right breast. As unbridled desire soared inside me, I gripped him fervently. He undid my bra while tracing tender kisses behind my ear and along my neck.

Reader Reviews

"This was a wonderful soul touching story. There is always that one person in each of our lives that will be there no matter what. The story will inspire so many people to never give up on love. Our hearts hold so much love, and it's so beautiful when it is reciprocated with no strings attached. Lynnette was blessed to have a friend like Sam. Steve was definitely a gem from her past. Steve was what I'd like to call a needle in a haystack, visible only to those who choose to look close enough to find it. I continue to stress, "What GOD has joined together, not what we join together. A wonderful and affectionate read." -L. W. Johnson

"I loved this book. It is very inspirational and uplifting. It gives you determination to not give up on love just because a relationship or marriage fails. I was touched by the support Steve offered to his childhood friend Lynette. It took me back to my childhood days and makes me cherish the bonds I developed with my freinds and family growing up in a small town. Lynette was a loving devoted wife and even though her marriage didn't work out with Billy she never gave up on love. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next. If the author gets a chance to read this review I'd like to say "I'd love to read the story of Lynette's girlfriend Sam." -WAM
